SINGAPORE -- Singapore is an attractive option for those who want quality education in a safe environment.

The best feature of Singaporean education is that it is done in English. English is Singapore`s official language. But they also speak Chinese, Malay or Tamil. So if you want, you can also learn one of those languages.

Singapore is also one of the safest countries in the world. And it is only a six-hour flight from Korea. Studying in Singapore is also cheaper than the U.S. or Canada. And its *multicultural atmosphere and cosmopolitan outlook makes living in Singapore even more interesting.

There are about 40 international schools offering primary and secondary education along with many public and private schools. If you are interested in the arts, design or science, you can study in their specialized schools after graduating middle school.

It is easy to think that private schools are better than public ones. But Singapore provides a high-standard public education, which is internationally recognized. It means, if you graduate from a Singaporean public high school, you can possibility go to any university in the world.

In order to enter Singaporean schools, one needs to have a good command of English because all the classes are conducted in English. So, first of all, you need to prove your English ability by submitting an IELTS or TOEFL score or taking an English exam at the school that you hope to enter. Public schools will also require you to take a math exam, in English. If your scores qualify for the school`s standards, you can enter the school.

The fees for public schools in Singapore total about SG$100 a month, which is about US$70. International school fees are about 10 times higher, totalling around US$800 a month or more.
