It has been informally decided that Hallym University President Kim Choong-soo is to be appointed the first economic senior secretary for the new administration and Kwak Seung-joon, a professor from Korea University, as the senior secretary in charge of policy & planning. Park Jae-wan from the Grand National Party is to be named the senior secretary in charge of political affairs.

President-elect Lee Myung-bak announced nominations for the spokesperson and seven senior secretaries of the Blue House on February 10 at the transition committee’s conference room located in Samcheong of Seoul. Hallym University President Kim, who is expected to be named the economic senior secretary, has once served as president of the Korea Institute of Public Finance (KIPF) and president of Korea Development Institute (KDI).

Lee Jong-chan, a former head of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, is expected to be named the senior secretary for civil affairs. As the senior secretary for education & science & culture, Grand National Party (GNP) member Lee Joo-ho is to be named. Kim Byung-kook who is a political science professor at Korea University is to be entitled the senior secretary for foreign affairs & national security.

Meanwhile, Park Mi-seok who is a child welfare professor at Sookmyung Women’s University has been selected as the senior secretary for social policy.

Lee Dong-kwan -- the current spokesman of the transition team -- has been chosen to be in charge of public information affairs.
