Nominations for the new administration’s first ministers are expected to be confirmed within the week; earlier, the nominations for the Blue House senior secretaries were released.

Park Young-joon who is the head of the secretary’s office of President-elect Lee said on February 10 that suitable candidates for ministry members are to be immediately selected once the government organization reform plan is approved.

If the Ministry of Unification is decided to be restored during negotiation with the National Assembly, the number of special ministers has been forecasted to be reduced to one -- indicating that the total number of state ministers is to be settled at 15.

Kang Man-soo, a former vice minister of finance, is likely to be named the minister of planning and finance.

Between Yoo Myung-hwan, Ambassador to Japan, and Lee Tae-sik, Ambassador to the United States, the former has been cited as the leading candidate for the foreign affairs minister. Lee Sang-heui, a former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is likely to be named the defense minister. The candidate for the education & science minister has been narrowed to Oh Se-jung -- Dean of the College of Natural Sciences at Seoul National University.

Choi Jae-deok, a former Vice Minister of Construction and Transportation, and Chung Jong-hwan, former CEO of Korea Rail Network Authority (KR), are names being discussed as national land development & ocean minister. Meanwhile, Lee Man-eui, a former vice minister of environment, and Won Se-hoon, former Deputy Mayor of Seoul, are competing to be named as the minister of government administration & security.
