LG Electronics Inc. yesterday unveiled its much-anticipated new Black Label phone, with which it hopes to duplicate the success of its two previous handsets of the Black Label series - Chocolate and Shine.
The third Black Label phone, whose pet name has yet to be announced, will be launched in Europe on April 24 and later in the rest of the world, company officials said. Korean consumers will be able to buy the phone at local stores sometime in the second half of the year.
"The third Black Label phone embodies LG`s competitiveness in handset design and technology," said Skott Ahn, head of the company`s mobile business.
"(With the new model," we hope to make another milestone in the global mobile industry, following Chocolate and Shine," he said.
LG released handout photos of the new handset - a slider with what the company officials explained was the world`s slimmest 5 mega-pixel camera. Specifics of the phone were withdrawn until the official launch later this month. "The latest model adds enhanced durability characteristics to its stylish design, using carbon fiber for the back of the handset and tempered glass for the display screen," said Choi Jun-hyuk, an LG spokesperson.
Chocolate and Shine were global mega hits. Over 180 million units of the Chocolate phone have been sold worldwide, with sales of the Shine at about 70 million units.
