The first Cabinet members of Lee Myung-bak administration have been said to be at least six years older on average than those of the Participatory Government (54.4 years on average).

In contrast to Blue House senior secretaries who are in their 40’s and 50’s with overseas educational background, the newly chosen Cabinet members are largely in their 60’s.

It has been revealed that FKI Vice Chairman Lee Yoon-ho is to be named the first minister of information & economy while former Korea University President Euh Yoon-Dae is to be appointed minister of education & science.

Kim Kyung-han, former vice-minister of justice, has been chosen as justice minister; Chung-Ang University professor Yu In-chon, as culture minister; and YWCA of Korea Chair Park Eun-kyung as environment minister. Nam Joo-hong, a Kyonggi University professor, has been in discussion as the special minister to be in charge of resource diplomacy, and act as a special envoy to North Korea.

Other provisional appointments include: former vice minister of finance Kang Man-soo, as minister of planning and finance; Ambassador to Japan Yoo Myung-hwan, as foreign affairs minister; former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lee Sang-hee, as defense minister; former Deputy Mayor of Seoul Won Se-hoon, as minister of government administration & security; former CEO of Korea Rail Network Authority Chung Jong-hwan, as national land & maritime affairs minister; chairman of the committee of Korea’s agriculture CEOs Chung woon-chun, as minister of agriculture & fisheries products; Ewha Womans University professor Kim Sung-ee, as minister of health, welfare & gender equality; and Inha University professor Lee Young-hee, as labor minister.
